Prevention and Intervention In

Faith Communities

New Paragraph

Nationally, 1 in 4 women experiences domestic violence. In rural communities the incidence of domestic violence is higher, while access to resources is lower. In many rural areas, faith leaders are often the first responders in situations of family violence, and yet few are formally or informally trained in best practices for supporting survivors.

New Paragraph

The odds are that every church in America has several survivors of domestic abuse in its pews every week.

These are some of the most common issues faith based leaders face:

  • What's the difference between a dysfunctional relationship and an abusive relationship?
  • What is the most helpful response when abuse is disclosed?
  • How can our church support and encourage survivors of abuse?
  • What policies should our church have in place?
  • Where can we go for more information?
